Rosario, Hicks break out the sticks as Twins beat Mariners

The Minnesota Twins rebounded from their disappointing series against Pittsburgh by beating the Seattle Mariners 9-5 Thursday night at Target Field.

Minnesota out-slugged the Mariners on their way to the victory.

After Seattle took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Twins responded in a big way in the bottom of the first. Brian Dozier led off the inning with a solo homer and Eddie Rosario crushed a three-run shot later in the inning, as the Twins took a 5-2 lead.

It appeared that Rosario had a chance at hitting for the cycle, but his line drive in the bottom of the eighth was snared by Seattle shortstop Brad Miller to leave Rosario a single shy.

As it was, he finished the night 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Aaron Hicks also continued to swing a hot bat. The Twins outfielder was 3-for-4 with a home run and a pair of runs scored.

It wasn't a great start for Phil Hughes (10-6). He gave up five runs on 10 hits and struck out five to pick up his 10th victory of the season.

Casey Fien tossed two perfect innings of relief, while Trevor May pitched a scoreless eighth and Glen Perkins worked a quick ninth inning.

Tommy Milone (5-2) takes the mound for the Twins Friday night against Seattle righty Taijuan Walker.
