Roseville quarterback Perra to walk-on at Minnesota

The Gophers lost a quarterback last week, but Wednesday night they gained one.

Senior Roseville quarterback and Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year Jacques Perra has chosen to play his college football at the University of Minnesota, coming in as a preferred walk-on.

Last week, starting quarterback Philip Nelson left the university to pursue an offense that he felt would better fit his game, leaving Mitch Leidner, who split time with Nelson, as the incumbent starter in the program.

Perra led Class 6A in passing yards and passing touchdowns in 2013, and undoubtedly has the size to play at the Division I level, standing 6'3" and weighing in at 210 pounds.

The Roseville QB plans on graduating in March and attending Gopher spring practices. Minnesota currently lists Leidner, freshman Michael Conway, redshirt sophomore Dexter Foreman, Eagan freshman Conor Rhoda, freshman Chris Streveler, and early enrollee Dimonic Mckinzy as their quarterbacks.
