Roseville standout Jacques Perra transfers from Gophers

Former Roseville High School standout and Gophers third-string quarterback Jacques Perra announced Thursday that he is transferring from the University of Minnesota to another school.

Perra hasn't announced what school he plans to attend he tells the Star Tribune that he's considering FCS schools and schools in the MIAC.

Perra will have three years of eligibility remaining and won't have to sit out a year if he transfers to FCS or lower.

"I got my permission to contact other schools from compliance so now it's just a matter of weighing my options," Perra told the Star Tribune in a Twitter direct message.

The Pioneer Press notes that he plans to weigh those options with the help of his former high school coach at Roseville – Chris Simdorn.

Perra was named the Star Tribune Metro Football Player of the Year and the Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year following his senior season at Roseville. That season he completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,171 yards and 35 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

But with the Gophers, the 6-foot-3 signal caller didn't see much time on the field. His only game action this season came in Minnesota's 41-13 victory over Purdue, as he was behind starter Mitch Leidner and freshman Demry Croft on the depth chart.

The position got a little more crowded in the last month when Minnesota received a commitment from former East Ridge High School quarterback Seth Green. Green chose to come to the Gophers after backing out on a commitment to Oregon.

Perra told the Pioneer Press his decision to transfer was more based, in part, on not playing last year, but wasn't about the changes to the Gophers coaching staff.
