Royals rally as Twins bullpen fails to hold a late lead

The Kansas City Royals battled back late and came from behind to beat the Twins 3-2 Friday night in Kansas City.

The Royals victory evened up the series.

Lorenzo Cain led off the 10th inning with a double, he moved to third on a wild pitch, then scored on an infield ground ball, as he slid around the tag of Kurt Suzuki at home plate.

It was disappointing loss for the Twins, who had a great start from Tommy Milone. He held the Royals to one run on five hits while walking two and striking out five, but the bullpen failed to hold the lead for the Twins down the stretch.

With Minnesota leading 2-1 in the eighth inning, Cain had a one-out single off of Twins reliever Casey Fien. Cain stole second, then moved to third on a ground out from Eric Hosmer. He scored as Kendrys Morales blooped a single into left field to even the game at two.

The newest Twins player had his best night so far. Miguel Sano scored one of the Twins runs and drove in the other as he finished 2-for-3 with a double on the night.

It was Sano's single in the top of the second inning that drove in Eddie Rosario, who led off the inning with a double. Then Sano led off the fifth with a double of his own. He scored on a sacrifice fly from Aaron Hicks.

Cain led the Royals, he was 3-for-4 with a stolen base, a double and scored the tying and winning runs and drove in the Royals only other run.

Mike Pelfrey (5-5), who has struggled in his last two road starts is on the mound for the Twins Saturday evening against Joe Blanton for Kansas City.
