For the second straight night the Minnesota Twins held a 1-0 lead heading into the eighth inning, and for the second straight night the Royals rallied to win in their last at bat.

Wednesday night, Kansas City rallied for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Twins 6-1.

The loss drops the Twins to a season-worst 16-games below .500.

Wade Davis (8-2) picked up his second win in as many nights. Phil Hughes (14-9) took the loss despite throwing seven scoreless innings to start the game.

Raul Ibanez led the Royals' eighth inning off with a base hit. Pinch runner Lorenzo Cain swiped second and moved to third on an infield single from Mike Moustakas. Cain raced in to score on a bunt single from Jarrod Dyson.

But the Royals were just getting started.

Nori Aoki gave the Royals the lead with a single, and Billy Butler broke the game open with a two-run bloop single to right.

By the time the inning ended the Royals had scored six runs and sent 10 hitters to the plate off of three different Twins pitchers.

For the Twins the toughest part to watch had to be the first seven innings from their former pitcher Liam Hendriks. He held the Twins to one run on five hits in seven innings, while he struck out five.

The Twins were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. They are 1-for-9 in the series.

Oswaldo Arcia drove in the only Twins' run, with a double that scored Kennys Vargas from first base.

The Twins will try to avoid the series sweep tomorrow as they send Tommy Milone to the mound against Kansas City's Jeremy Guthrie. First pitch is at 7:10.
