Major League Baseball is mourning the loss of Yordano Ventura, a rising pitching star for the Kansas City Royals who died Sunday in a car accident. The fatal crash happened in the Dominican Republic, according to reports, which have been confirmed by MLB officials.
Ventura, 25, had one of the liveliest fastballs in the big leagues, using it frequently to win Game 6 of the 2015 World Series.
The news comes just hours after former Indians third baseman Andy Marte was killed in a car crash, MLB.com notes, and months after former Miami Marlins superstar Jose Fernandez died in a boating accident.
More details to come.
