The Twins beat the Rays on Sunday to win the series 2-1. They couldn't have done it without Miguel Sano – who hit two home runs and batted in a total of four runs.

But what might be even more memorable than the home runs was Sano's deep fly in the first inning.

It went 210 feet in the air, hitting the roof at Tropicana Field. He is the first player to ever hit a ball that touched the 17 year-old roof. Tampa Bay's third baseman Evan Longoria made the catch when the ball came back down.

Sano's outstanding performance on Sunday may have kept him in the major leagues. The outfielder has been switching off at third base with Jorge Polanco while Trevor Plouffe has been on the disabled list.

There had been a lot of talk lately about sending Sano back to the minors because of his hitting slump and work ethic.

It was speculated that either Sano, Polanco, Bryon Buxton or Kennys Vargas would be sent down to make room for Plouffe on the roster.

But Sano's show on Sunday left the Twins no choice but to keep him on the roster.

The Twins decided send Buxton down to Triple A to activate Plouffe from the disabled list.

Buxton did not play in two of the three games against the Rays over the weekend. He hasn't had a hit in the last 11 times he's been at the plate. Buxton was also sent down to the minors once earlier this season, in April.

The Pioneer Press said that Buxton is disappointed but he hasn't given up.

“I feel that I’ve made progress from where I was, and it’s tough,’’ Buxton said before departing Tropicana Field on Sunday, according to the newspaper. “But it’s baseball, you have to come out there, keeping grinding it out and keep trying to get better every day.’’
