MINNEAPOLIS -- Max Scherzer threw seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits and striking out 10 as the Twins fell to the Tigers, 5-1, Wednesday at Target Field.

Ex-Twin Delmon Young hit a two-run homer to give Detroit a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. It was the second homer of the game given up by Twins starter Cole De Vries, who also gave up a solo shot to Miquel Cabrera in the first inning.

De Vries, who hasn't won a game since June 30, pitched into the fifth inning, giving up four runs on eight hits. He falls to 2-4 on the year.

The Twins, who are off Thursday, went 1-5 in their six-game homestand against Tampa Bay and Detroit. Up next for the Twins, a 10-game road trip with stops in Seattle, Oakland and Texas.

After the game the Twins optioned relievers Jeff Manship and Luis Perdermo to Triple-A Rochester. Right-hander Anthony Swarzak will be activated from the 15 day disabled list in time for Friday's game in Seattle. The team also plans on calling up a positional player from Rochester.
