Seattle will have to cook without Rice for the rest of the season

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver and former Viking Sidney Rice will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

The Seattle Times reports that Rice suffered the injury in Monday's 14-9 win at St. Louis, leaving after a play in the second quarter when he dived unsuccessfully to corral a Russell Wilson pass in the end zone.

CBS Sports weighs in with the fact that it's a good thing the Seahawks are getting another former Viking in Percy Harvin back soon because the team will have one less receiver going forward. Before Rice's injury, Harvin's return was viewed as a big deal in Seattle, now that Rice is done for the season, it's an even bigger deal. Harvin is expected to return this week when the Seahawks host the Buccaneers.

Rice had 15 catches for 231 yards and three touchdowns in eight games this season, third among Seattle wideouts. Last year, he had 50 catches for 748 yards and seven scores in 16 starts.

Rice is due to earn a base salary of $8.5 million in 2014, an amount that his past performance and current health won’t justify, according to NBC's Pro Football Talk, saying that Rice's career with the Seahawks is probably over.

Given that no one else will be paying him $8.5 million for 2013, according to PFT's Mike Florio, it could make sense to take the best offer Seattle eventually makes.
