Tournament season is officially underway as the Class 3A wrestling team championships were held at St. Michael-Albertville (STMA) High School on Thursday, and it was the host school that saw a big lead disappear in the championship match against top-seeded Shakopee.

Shakopee, the No. 1 seed in the Class 3A tournament, earned its third straight state championship with a 30-24 victory over STMA, though it wasn't a breeze as the Sabers trailed 24-3 before winning the final seven weight classes for the 30-24 victory.

STMA, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, upset No. 2 Stillwater 31-27 in the state semifinals. Shakopee beat Anoka 34-25 in the semifinals to reach the title bout.

The Class 2A semifinals and championship are Friday at STMA. The semifinals are at 9 a.m., with No. 1 Simley taking on No. 4 Princeton, and No. 2 Fairmont/Martin County West in a battle with No. 3 Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield.

The Class 1A semifinals and title match are Saturday at STMA. No. 1 Kimball faces No. 4 Royalton/Upsala at 9 a.m., with the other semifinal match featuring No. 2 Jackson County Central and No. 3 Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie.
