The Vikings are tied with the Rams for the second worst record in the NFL. Believe it or not, there are some positive outcomes to Minnesota's rough season. Christian Ponder has shown some promise and Jared Allen is chasing an NFL record.
Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder appears to have the inside track on what's going on with his disgruntled teammate, Percy Harvin. Ponder told the Pioneer Press Saturday that he's been in touch with Harvin through texts. Ponder said while he's never brought up Harvin's problems with the organization, he knows the wide receiver is preparing for this week's training camp and is "ready to go."
Former Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton wrote a column for the Pioneer Press expressing his happiness with Minnesota's commitment to Christian Ponder. "The Vikings understand the only way to achieve real, sustainable success is by finding a great quarterback," Tarkenton writes.
After a poor start against the Jaguars on Sunday, Christian Ponder had to remind himself to "play almost mad." In other words, Ponder said he needed to change his attitude and start playing with a sense of "relentlessness."
Christian Ponder put up an ugly 58-yard, two interception game Sunday against the Cardinals. Despite the bad game, the second year quarterback knows he has to "make a big progression from Sunday to Thursday" when Minnesota hosts Tampa Bay.
Christian Ponder continues to say he won't force the ball downfield if nobody is open, but he does admit the "one thing we're lacking in is big plays." The Vikings longest play this season is 20 yards, and they've done it only three times.
