Shutout by the Senators, Wild lose second straight

The Minnesota Wild suffered a second straight loss Thursday night, falling to Ottawa 3-0.

Senators goaltender Craig Anderson stole the show. He stopped all 35 shots he faced, while Mike Hoffman added a pair of goals for Ottawa.

After a scoreless first period, Ottawa got on the scoreboard early in the second period after Minnesota's Marco Scandella was put in the penalty box for instigating a skirmish following a hit on teammate Jason Pominville.

That set up Clarke MacArthur for the power play goal. Just over two minutes later Hoffman pushed the Ottawa lead to 2-0 with his wrist shot.

It remained 2-0 until the third when Hoffman picked up his second goal of the night with a slap shot past Niklas Backstrom.

Minnesota was in the penalty box too much, once again. They tallied 29 penalty minutes and gave the Senators five power play opportunities.

Despite drastically outshooting the Senators, 35-17, the Wild weren't able to solve Anderson and came up short.

Wild coach Mike Yeo was disappointed afterwards.

The Wild continue the road trip on Saturday in Montreal.

2nd period: OTT Mike Hoffman (2) wrist shot – Assist: Eric Gryba (1), Curtis Lazar (4)
