Staggering size of new Vikings stadium will blow your mind

Fans who were lucky enough to experience the human rush hour inside the Metrodome following a competitive Twins, Gophers or Vikings game likely experienced the trauma of rubbing elbows with a bunch of sweaty strangers, all simultaneously trying to maneuver their way out of the narrow Metrodome concourse.

It was brutal, and it took forever.

If the photo the Minnesota Vikings unveiled today is any indication of a better process, fans are in for a far more comfortable experience. The photo above shows the massive stadium, nearly twice the size of the Dome.

For context, the Dome covered 900,000 square feet. The new venue will cover 1.75 million square feet.

The dome isn't gone in technical terms just yet, but to the naked eye, the site of the building that housed the World Series, Super Bowl, MLB All-Star Game and multiple NCAA tournaments, is nothing but a pile of rubble.

If you want, take a look at the livestream and aerial view of the site as it looks now, on the Vikings stadium page.

Here's a great infographic released by the Vikings comparing the Metrodome to the new stadium.
