St. Paul native Lindsey Vonn has been hospitalized in Vail, Colo., awaiting test results related to "severe intestinal pain," the Associated Press reports.

Vonn, a gold medal winner in the downhill in the 2010 Winter Olympics and four-time overall World Cup champion, skipped a slalom competition in Finland last weekend in preparation for races in Aspen -- and then backed out of a promotional event in Vail Friday because of illness.

Vonn's ski technician Heinz Haemmerle says she feels pain all over her body and that her bones are hurting. Haemmerle also noted that this isn't the first time the skier has gone to the hospital.

Vonn recently suffered a career setback when the International Ski Federation (FIS) rejected her bid to compete in World Cup downhill ski race, set for Nov. 24 in Canada.

"One gender is not entitled to participate in races of the other," the FIS said in its ruling.
