Slam jam: Zach LaVine flies away with NBA Slam Dunk contest

Timberwolves rookie Zach Lavine left no doubters with a jaw-dropping aerial display in the NBA's Slam Dunk Contest Saturday night, running away with the trophy, the Associated Press reports.

LaVine, just 19 years old, scored a perfect 100 in the opening round highlighted by two through-the-legs, one-handed slams.

In the championship round he scored 94 points, easily outperforming his closest competitor, Orlando's Victor Oladipo, who finished with a 72 in the championship round.

Here's a video showing all four of LaVine's dunks.

LaVine was introduced along with music from the movie "Space Jam," which was released in 1996, the year after he was born. He also wore a Space Jam jersey for his first dunk.

You can appreciate LaVine's moves more by watching in slow motion.

Here's the second one.

The last time a Timberwolves player won the dunk contest was 1994, and the team went 20-62 that year. This year's team is on pace to finish 17-65.

The contest was part of the NBA All-Star weekend activities. The All-Star Game will be played Sunday afternoon, and no Timberwolves are on the roster.
