Spielman: Minnesota native Thielen impresses in minicamp

Detroit Lakes native and Minnesota State University-Mankato graduate Adam Thielen is impressing Vikings general manager Rick Spielman.

Spielman appeared on KFAN's 9 to Noon show with Paul Allen, Thursday. He singled out Thielen when he was asked to name someone who has really progressed during the offseason.

"The kid that has kind of really jumped out to us so far is Adam Thielen," Spielman said, during the interview. "He has had a real good offseason so far, but we'll see more when we get down there to Mankato."

He was a standout in college with the Mavericks. Thielen caught 198 passes for 2,900 yards, over his career.

He was one of more than 200 college football players who participated in the Super Regional Combine at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, after his senior year.

But he spent last year on the Vikings practice squad and hasn't played in a game, since he was at Minnesota State.

"It's different not suiting up," Thielen told the Star Tribune. "It's been a while since I've played in a game, but it was good. It was good to learn the game and learn the NFL way, go against a quality defense. Every day to see that speed was good and helping my transition."

This time around things could be looking a little different for him. During this week's minicamp, he has received a lot of reps with some of the team's top receivers, according to the Fargo Forum.

This time around Thielen could have a chance to earn his way on to the Vikings roster. He said he won't take any time off over the next month before the Vikings report for training camp, July 24th.
