St. Cloud State advances to first Frozen Four since 2013
The St. Cloud State men's hockey team became the second Minnesota school to advance to the Frozen Four, defeating Boston College 4-1 in the Northeast Regional Final on Sunday night.
The Huskies fell into an early hole thanks to a goal by Minnesota Wild prospect Matt Boldy in the first period. But much like their win over Boston University on Saturday, SCSU responded with three unanswered goals.
Luke Jaycox tied the game in the second period and Will Hammer gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish. Nolan Walker added an insurance goal late in the second period to give the Huskies all they would need.
David Hrenak made 26 saves and Micah Miller added an empty net goal as SCSU advanced to its first Frozen Four since 2013 and the second in school history.
The Huskies will face the winner of the Minnesota/Minnesota State-Mankato game on Apr. 8 in Pittsburgh.
