A St. Paul hockey legend has died. Charles “Lefty” Smith -- who was instrumental in building the hockey program at South St. Paul High, and later became Notre Dame’s first hockey coach -- passed away last night at the age of 83. Next month, Notre Dame’s new hockey arena will be dedicated to Smith.
