St. Paul man who ran in first 30 Twin Cities Marathons succumbs to cancer
Lung cancer deprived Joe Schletty of his goal of running his 200th marathon. But, like all long-distance runners, Schletty reached and surpassed plenty of other milestones along the way. Until this fall, he had run every Twin Cities Marathon since the race's inception. The first marathon he ran, in 1978, was a forerunner to the Twin Cities event and he passed the running bug along to a number of family members.
