St. Paul Saints reach a deal for tailgating lot at CHS Field

The St. Paul Saints have reached a deal that will create a new tailgating lot a couple of blocks from their new home – CHS Field.

According to a the Saints' announcement, the new tailgating lot is paved and has enough space for 500 automobiles. It's located at the newly-created intersection of Lafayette St. and Prince St., just off Kellogg Blvd.

Tailgating parking will cost $8 a spot and fans can bring grills, food and beverages into the lot.

Working out the details of the tailgating lot wasn't easy though. Jack Hoeschler, an attorney for the lot's owner, D Orren B LLC, told the Pioneer Press initially they were not interested at first because of the hassle factor.

Hoeschler also noted that there's a conflict with Health Partners employees, who hold contracts for roughly half the spots.

"Health Partners will still be a priority for those spots, but they largely clear out in the evenings," Hoeschler told the newspaper. "It's mostly vacant at night."

The team notes that fans will have other parking options as well, including the Union Depot lot, which has approximately 1,000 spots and is just two and a half blocks from the stadium along Kellogg Blvd.

In all, the Saints say there are roughly 3,000 spots within a four block radius of the ballpark, and more than 6,000 spots within six blocks.

The Saints open their $63 million ballpark on May 21st. The team has a series of home-opener activities planned.
