Division III National Powerhouse Mount Union proved to be too much for St. Thomas Friday night as the Tommies fell in the National Championship game, 28-10.

The Raiders took the game's opening drive 82 yards and capped it off with a Jake Simon one-yard touchdown run. Later in the first quarter St. Thomas had a punt blocked and returned for a 13-yard touchdown, putting Mount Union on top, 14-0.

The Tommies responded on the third play of the second quarter when wide receiver Dan Ferrazzo scored on a 13 yard rushing touchdown. That would be the score at the half.

Midway through the third quarter the Raiders of Mount Union fumbled a punt return, giving the Tommies a chance do move closer. The ensuing drive resulted in a 38-yard field goal by Tommies kicker Paul Graupner.

Mount Union, in resilient fashion, responded with a 12 play drive that was finished on a 17 yard touchdown pass from Kevin Burke to Chris Denton. After the extra point the Raiders led by a score of 21-10. The Tommies wouldn't get any closer.

The Raiders' first drive of the fourth quarter went 86 yards on 14 plays, and once again Jake Simon punched the ball over the goal line on a one yard plunge, pushing the lead to 18.
