State girls basketball: 2A, 3A semifinals are set

The Minnesota State Class 2A Girls Basketball Tournament got underway on Wednesday.

Top-seed Sauk Centre made 15-of-23 shots from the floor in the second half to break away from Norwood-Young America and pick up a 67-45 victory in the quarterfinals.

Kelsey Peschel led the way with 17 points. She also dished out four assists in the victory. Madison Moritz just missed a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 16 boards in the victory.

Minnehaha Academy 49 Annandale 38

Minnehaha Academy scored 23 points off of 15 Annandale turnovers and pulled out a 49-38 victory in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

The Redhawks defense held the Cardinals to just 30 percent shooting from the floor, as well.

Terra Rhodes led Minnehaha Academy with 13 points and Lilly Thomey added 10. They were the only two Redhawks in double figures. Thomey also grabbed eight rebounds in the game.

The Mainstreeters will meet up with Minnehaha Academy in the Class 2A semifinals.

Dover-Eyota 62 Fairmont 53

Brandi Blattner had a double-double to lead Dover-Eyota to a 62-53 victory over Fairmont in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

Blattner finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Her teammate Megan Hintz also had a double-double with 10 points and 19 boards.

The Eagles led throughout and pushed their lead to 20 at one point in the second half.

Fairmont battled back, cutting the lead to six, with less than two minutes left, but they were unable to get over the hump.

Sierra Schultz finished with a game-high 22 points in the loss for Fairmont.

Roseau 50 Esko 37

Roseau survived a tough night shooting to beat Esko 50-37 in the Class 2A quarterfinals. The Rams shot just 30.8 percent from the floor.

However, the Eskomos were colder, they shot just 21.1 percent (12-of-57) from the floor.

Only three Rams scored in the game. Kiley Borowicz led the way with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Kacie Borowicz added 20 points and six boards. Amelia Johnson scored the other seven Rams' points.

Roseau meets up with Dover-Eyota in the 2A semifinals.

Class 3A: Park Center, Kasson-Mantorville head to semifinals

Park Center is headed back to the Class 3A semifinals after their 72-57 quarterfinal victory over Richfield on Wednesday.

The Pirates scored 30 points off of 21 Richfield turnovers.

Mikayla Hayes had a big day with the double-double as she scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Park Center shot the ball the whole game, they shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and were 8-of-19 from behind the three-point line.

Kasson-Mantorville 62 New Prague 55

Kristen Scott scored 23 points to lead Kasson-Mantorville to a 62-55 victory over No. 3 seed New Prague on Wednesday.

Scott finished 8-of-11 from the floor and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line in the KoMets victory.

The KoMets shot 50 percent from the floor, which helped them overcome 20 turnovers to New Prague's 4.

Deihl Maizie scored 20 in the loss for New Prague.

Kasson-Mantorville will face Park Center in Thursday's semifinal.
