Dubnyk's save was a fitting end to the night, as his play early was the only thing that allowed the Wild to stay in the game against the Islanders. Dubnyk finished with 37 saves in the victory.
The goaltender's play in the first period was the key. The Islanders outshot Minnesota 16-5 in the first, but Dubnyk turned away every Islanders attempt.
The Islanders got on the scoreboard first, late in the second period, when Tavares beat Dubnyk with a wrist shot.
That looked like it might be enough, but midway through the third, Zach Parise recovered a rebound off Islanders goaltender Jaroslav Halak to even the score.
The score stayed locked at 1-1 until the shootout, when Parise used the post to sneak one passed Halak and put the Wild up.
