Ex-Viking quarterback Fran Tarkenton is remembering Deacon Jones as a “great player who always had a smile on his face.”

Jones, a defensive end for the L.A. Rams legendary “fearsome foursome," died Monday at the age of 74.

On his Twitter account, Tarkenton says it was "an honor to be able to compete against a man like Deacon Jones."

Jones, who like Tarkenton, is in the pro football Hall of Fame, is credited with coining the word "sack" for how he knocked down quarterbacks.
