DeLaSalle basketball star Reid Travis picks Stanford over Gophers

"I feel Stanford University is the best option I could choose."

Those were the gut-wrenching words Gophers fans heard DeLaSalle basketball star Reid Travis say this afternoon when announcing which University he would take his talents to next year.

According to Ryan James, Travis, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward had narrowed his list to two: Stanford and Minnesota. Once again, the Gophers were left out in the cold. Duke and Gonzaga were finalists among the final four.

Travis is part of the "Big Three" in Minnesota. Apple Valley's Tyus Jones and former Robbinsdale Cooper standout Rashad Vaughn are ranked ahead of Travis on the national scale, but all three are considered five-star recruits, according to ESPN.

Jones and Vaughn have not made their decisions.

Travis is a four-star recruit on Rivals.com, which offers this scouting report on him.

"Hard playing insider is amongst the most physical players in the country. Attacks the glass on both ends and is a good scorer out to 15 feet. Slightly undersized for the power forward but makes up for it with his toughness and strength."

As far as national rankings go, Travis is rated the No. 23 player in the country by ESPN and No. 40 by Rivals.

Eric Bossi of Rivals calls Travis a legitimate McDonald's All-American candidate, as reported by the Pioneer Press.
