Tyus Jones is going to Duke

Tyus Jones is going to Duke, and he needed just two words to announce his decision on Friday afternoon at Apple Valley High School.

"Duke University," Jones announced in front of a packed gymnasium inside the high school.

The senior point guard at Apple Valley -- widely believed to be the No. 1 point guard in the country -- had narrowed his decision to Duke, Kansas, Baylor and Minnesota.

It wasn't a shock that Jones passed on Minnesota. ESPN reported earlier this week that Jones was deciding between the Blue Devils and Kansas.

Jones announced his decision at the same time his good friend and No. 1 player on ESPN's recruiting rankings Jahlil Okafor did. Okafor is a center from Whitney High School in Chicago.

Jones said he and Okafor have been "set in stone on going to school together."

Perhaps the biggest draw that Duke offered was head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.

"He's a legend," Jones said of Krzyzewski, via an online feed from WCCO-TV. "He's coached for many years and is arguably one of the greatest coaches of all-time. He has a great basketball mind and I feel that I will be able to learn a tremendous amount under him."

Jones is the second of the "Big Three" Minnesota high school stars to decide. Earlier this month DeLaSalle's Reid Travis decided to attend Stanford.

Rashad Vaughn, formerly of Robbinsdale Cooper High School, says he's in no hurry to make a decision. Vaughn now plays at a prep school in Las Vegas.
