Caledonia: Fruechte goes from preps to the pros
Former Gophers wide receiver Isaac Fruechte signed with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday and in doing so became the second Caledonia High School graduate to go to the NFL. "We're pretty proud," Caledonia football coach Brent Schroeder said. Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Karl Klug was the first Caledonia grad to go pro.

St. Cloud: Girls lacrosse growing fast
St. Cloud Cathedral, Apollo and Tech high schools all feature talented athletics on their own, but in girls lacrosse the three schools combine for one team referred to as St. Cloud Area. There are 59 girls on varsity/junior varsity this year, up from 39 in their debut season in 2009.

Eveleth: Karakas headed to another Hall of Fame
Mike Karakas, the first American-born goalie in the NHL, will be inducted into the DECC Athletic Hall of Fame on Thursday night. His amazing life included playing with a broken toe in the Stanley Cup Final with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1938. He was the first NHL player to appear on a Wheaties box.
