Cold Spring: Sophomore is world champion racquetball star

He's the No. 1-ranked 16-and-under racquetball player in the world, but he's more focused on his future in baseball. Jordan Barth, a sophomore at ROCORI High School is the starting shortstop on the baseball team and hopes to someday play college baseball. In his spare time he plays racquetball at a semi-pro level, and he's already a world champion.

Rochester: Marines before medals for Lourdes athlete

Paul Schroeder is one of the leading hitters on the undefeated (22-0) Rochester Lourdes baseball team. He also helped Lourdes win the Class 3A Prep Bowl last fall. But if Lourdes reaches the state baseball tournament, Schroeder won't be there with his teammates; he'll be in California joining the Marines. "This is a really, really great thing that he's doing for his country, and he's going to make a great Marine," his coach said.

Hermantown: College World Series umpire from MN

Leah Bowen, a 2000 graduate from Hermantown High School and former softball player at Bemidji State University, is one of six umpires working the Division I Women's College World Series. While earning her Masters degree in Texas, Bowen sort of stumbled into umpiring softball in an effort to make money during the financial crash a little more than five years ago.
