Detroit Lakes: Girls' golf dynasty aims for 4th state title

Katie Smith, the three-time reigning girls golf individual Class 2A state champion, has Detroit Lakes in cruise control this season in what could culminate with a fourth straight team state championship. The greatest dynasty in Minnesota girls prep golf is the Minnewaska squad that won five straight titles from 2006-2010. No golfer has won four consecutive individual titles.

Duluth: Lacrosse coming to Duluth high schools

Just like Mankato West and East schools announced earlier this week, a pair of Duluth schools voted in favor of making lacrosse a school-sponsored boys and girls sport in 2016. Denfeld and East high schools in Duluth will co-op a varsity lacrosse team and self-fund it for the first four years. Lacrosse is one of the country's fastest growing sports and there are now more than 70 varsity teams in Minnesota.
