Sports fans hoping to be among the first to try a new beer vending machine at last night's Minnesota Wild game were left disappointed.

The Wild had talked up the launch of the what it claims is a world first for an entertainment venue – a machine selling 25 oz cans of Budweiser – ahead of last night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

But FOX 9 reports the Budweiser Smart Vending Machine was not operational at the Xcel Energy Center, with the team confirming that "logistical issues" delayed the launch.

It meant fans had to get their beers the old fashioned way in last night's 4-2 defeat – at the bar.

The machine is located on the main concourse, costing $13 for the super-sized cans. When operational, there will be a staff member next to the machine checking IDs.

WCCO says the Wild have not put a date on when the machine is likely to be up and running.
