The Minnesota Wild have placed forward Chris Stewart on waivers, and fans aren't happy.

Stewart arrived in Minnesota in March 2015 from the Buffalo Sabres, and has been a popular member of the roster among his teammates and fans ever since.

But the Wild are looking to free up some cap space as the trade deadline approaches, with The Athletic reporter Michael Russo noting they have been trying to trade the 30 year old in recent days.

There's a chance he'll stay with the Wild if he clears waivers, but Russo doesn't think that'll happen.

The reality is that Stewart has been a healthy scratch 12 times since Jan. 1, and the Wild believe that waiving him will give the veteran a chance for more playing time elsewhere.

"I think everybody realizes this is an unfortunate part of the business," said Wild coach Bruce Boudreau, via Anthony LaPanta.

The reaction among fans hasn't been positive since the Wild broke the news just before 10:30 a.m. that they're waiving their enforcer.
