Talk about being on a tear. Trevor Plouffe has carried the Twins with 13 homers in the last month -- an incredible surge for a player that was nearly released just prior to his hot streak. Manager Ron Gardenhire says, "It's pretty much amazing to tell you the truth."
Plouffe isn't ready to return
Twins' third baseman Trevor Plouffe is eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday, but he won't be joining the team anytime soon. A bruised bone in his right thumb still causes him pain when swings a bat, and it doesn't sound like he'll be ready until at least late next week.
Twins place Plouffe on DL, call up Valencia
The Twins placed Trevor Plouffe on the 15 day disabled list Friday night. He was initially in the lineup, but scratched after his bruised thumb acted up on him during batting practice. The move is retroactive to July 21. Filling the roster spot is Danny Valencia, who was hitting .250 with 7 home runs and 37 RBI at AAA-Rochester.

Twins' third baseman Trevor Plouffe has missed a week of games because of a jammed thumb, and it nearly sent him to the disabled list. But he announced on Twitter that it looks like he'll be back on the field Friday for the series opener against the Cleveland Indians.
