Tiger Woods says he hasn't slept in three days since he and Minnesota-born Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn ended their three-year relationship.

On Sunday afternoon, Vonn broke news of the breakup on her Facebook page and Woods made the announcement on his website.

Speaking publicly for the first time since finishing tied for 17th at the Masters last month, Woods on Tuesday said the breakup coinciding with the anniversary of his father's death has taken an emotional toll on him.

"Obviously it does affect me. It is tough, there's no doubt. I'm not going to lie about that. It is tough," Woods said, according to Golf Digest. "And on top of that, this time of year is really, really hard on me. This three-day window is really hard. I haven't slept. It's been – these three days, May 3rd and through the 5th, today, is just brutal on me, and then obviously with what happened on Sunday, it just adds to it."

Their breakup became official on the nine-year anniversary of Woods' father's death. Earl Woods died May 3, 2006.

In January, when Vonn broke a 35-year-old record for career downhill World Cup wins, Woods was waiting to congratulate her at the finish line of the Italian course.

“I didn’t think this could get any better than yesterday with my entire family here but now with Tiger here this is unbelievable,” Vonn said, according to Golf Channel.

Woods was wearing a face mask with a skeleton design that covered most of his face.

“I knew it was him immediately,” Vonn said. “He loves that stupid mask.”

They both said the breakup was mutual.
