The Minnesota Twins bullpen couldn't hold a lead and they fell to the Detroit Tigers 6-4 in the opener of their critical seven-game road trip.

Mike Pelfrey gave the Twins five strong innings, limiting the Tigers to one run on six hits. But the Twins bullpen couldn't hold it for him.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Eddie Rosario hit a bases-clearing triple to put the Twins on top 3-0. Rosario came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Eduardo Escobar to make it 4-0.

Amazingly, Rosario's triple was the only hit the Twins had through the fifth inning. They finished with just two hits on the night.

The Tigers answered with a run in the bottom half of the fifth, when Nick Castellanos scored on a fielders choice.

Detroit then got to the Twins bullpen in the seventh, tying the game by scoring three runs. A two-run double from Victor Martinez was the big blow.

Casey Fien gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Castellanos led off the eighth with a double. He came around to score on a two-run homer by Rajai Davis. Castellanos led the Tigers offense, going 3-for-4 and scoring a pair of runs.

Glen Perkins (2-5) didn't have it – allowing two runs on three hits in an inning of relief. He was tagged with the loss.

The Twins will send Tyler Duffey (4-1) to the mound when the series continues on Saturday evening against Alfredo Simon (13-10) of the Tigers.
