Minnesota's highest-rated high school football recruit will be staying close to home when he heads to college, after committing to the Gophers.

Marshall Tigers offensive lineman Blaise Andries shared his decision to play for the University of Minnesota on Twitter Saturday, posting a statement that started "home is where the heart is."

"I am looking forward to working hard in this next chapter of my life," he concludes, "to become the best person and player I can be."

Marshall Radio reports Andries, who will be a senior next fall for the Tigers, has been rated a four-star recruit by "many different rating services" and is currently listed as Minnesota's No. 1 recruit.

The news service said he had received offers from Big Ten Schools Michigan State and Penn State, and other major college football schools including TCU, Oregon, Miami and TCU.

At 6'6 and 290 pounds, the Star Tribune reports he is the first player to actually commit to the Gophers for the Class of 2017, and represents a coup for the U.

He made his announcement just prior to the Gophers' annual Spring Game at TCF Bank Stadium, with the Pioneer Press noting he had visited Gophers practice on March 25.
