Top-ranked Bulldogs surge past Alaska Anchorage

Sophomore J.T. Brown netted four goals to lead the University of Minnesota Duluth (18-5-4 overall, 12-4-3 WCHA) to a 4-1 victory over Alaska Anchorage. The only goal for the last-place Seawolves (6-17-2, 3-17-1) came late in the second period. The two teams will meet again Saturday night for the WCHA series-ender.

Alaska Anchorage beats top-ranked Bulldogs, 3-2

Bulldogs' sophomore J.T. Brown had a great weekend scoring five of the six UMD goals in this weekend's WCHA series. But last-place Anchorage held onto a 3-2 victory Saturday night to break an eight-game losing streak. With eight games left in the regular season, the Bulldogs (18-6-4 and 12-5-3 in WCHA) are now three points behind first-place Minnesota; two points ahead of third-place Colorado College and three points ahead of fourth-place Denver. UMD will host fifth-place North Dakota this Friday and Saturday.

UMD Bulldogs shut down on home ice

Michigan Tech (12-12-2 overall, 9-7-2 in the WCHA) shut out No. 1 Minnesota-Duluth at Amsoil Arena Saturday, 5-0. The Bulldogs (17-5-4, 11-4-3) are back on the road next weekend to take on last-place Alaska Anchorage.

Kyle Rau scored twice and Nick Bjugstad and Ben Marshall added goals as the Gophers skated to a win at Alaska Anchorage. The defense was smothering, which allowed goalie Adam Wilcox to stop all 14 shots he faced for the 4-0 shutout.

Bulldogs split series with North Dakota

Minnesota Duluth (19-7-4 and 13-6-3 in WCHA) snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday night in Duluth with a 5-4 victory to split the weekend series against UND (16-11-2 and 12-10). Senior forward Jack Connolly netted two goals and had three assists for the third-ranked Bulldogs. UMD men's hockey travels to Mankato next weekend.

Bulldogs crush Nebraska-Omaha, 6-2

Minnesota-Duluth blasted Nebraska-Omaha, 6-2 Friday night in WCHA action. Sophomore forward J.T. Brown recorded his first career hat trick to lead the way for the Bulldogs. UMD pushed its school record unbeaten streak to 17 games.

Bulldogs sweep Alabama-Huntsville

The No. 1-ranked Bulldogs defeated Alabama-Huntsville 4-3 at home Saturday night. The University of Minnesota Duluth (17-4-3) has won eight straight home games and swept six series so far this season. The Bulldogs are back home again Friday and Saturday to host Michigan Tech University.

WCHA playoff preview: Gophers vs. Alaska-Anchorage

The best-of-three series between the Golden Gophers and Alaska-Anchorage begins tonight at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, swept the Seawolves in a pair games back in October. Minnesota outscored Anchorage 8-1 in the two games.
