Torii Hunter drops suspension appeal, out for rest of Ranger series

Twins outfielder Torii Hunter is dropping his appeal of a two-game suspension and will sit out of Saturday's game against the Rangers.

Major League Baseball served Hunter a two-game suspension Friday and an undisclosed fine for an outburst at Wednesday's game against the Royals, which resulted in Hunter getting ejected from the game.

Hunter was upset with a strike called in the eighth inning and was held back at one point as he argued with the umpire, then took off his batting gloves, jersey and tossed other gear. Manager Paul Molitor was also ejected but will not be suspended.

Hunter said Friday he planned to appeal the suspension, but the team announced Saturday he is dropping the appeal, the Pioneer Press reports.

Hunter will be back in action for Monday's game in St. Louis. The Twins could be hurting with Hunter out. He leads Minnesota in RBIs, with 36 this season, FOX Sports reports.

The Twins will also be without outfielder Aaron Hicks who is reporting a stiff right elbow, according to the Star Tribune. Hicks had a costly error in Friday's game against the Rangers that allowed Texas to take the lead for the 6-2 win.

Eduardo Escobar will play in the outfield Saturday.
