Twin Cities Red Kettle Campaign sets new single-day record
The Red Kettle Campaign in the Twin Cities raised $108,958.76 in ten hours on Saturday to set a new record, KARE 11 reports. More than 1,200 volunteers rang bells around the Twin Cities metro during the Salvation Army's "Kick Off-Rock the Red Kettle" event.
Spokeswoman Annette Bauer told WCCO, “Last year was a great kickoff event, we raised $65,000 that was a record at that time, and when we put the goal at $108,000, we were a little concerned, but we did it."
The Salvation Army has a new iPhone app called "Bell Ringer TC" that lets volunteers sign up for the more than 100,000 hours of bell ringing left this season, which runs through Dec. 24.
