Twins add 7 to roster, but lose Pinto, Achter to waivers

The Minnesota Twins added seven players to their major league roster while losing two others Friday.

They've added the following prospects:

  • J.T. Chargois, RHP
  • Yorman Landa, RHP
  • Pat Dean, LHP
  • Mason Melotakis, LHP
  • Taylor Rogers, LHP
  • Randy Rosario, LHP
  • Adam Brett Walker, OF

Of that group Walker might be the most known commodity at this point. At Double-A Chattanooga last year the 24-year-old hit .239 with 31 doubles, 3 triples, 31 home runs and 106 RBI. Walker led the Southern League in home runs, extra-base hits and RBI.

He followed that up by hitting .254 with 5 homers and 18 RBIs in 19 games for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League.

Dean, 26, could be another name for Twins fans to pay attention to. He spent all of last season with Triple-A Rochester and went 12-11 with a 2.82 ERA in 179 innings.

Chargois, 24, is a hard-throwing right hander who split time between Single-A Fort Myers and Chattanooga last year. He was 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 48 innings in 48 relief appearances.

They also lost reliever A.J. Achter, who was claimed off waivers by Philadelphia and catcher Josmil Pinto, who was claimed by San Diego.

According to 1500 ESPN, Pinto showed promise as a hitter, but a concussion and serious questions about his defense behind the plate have hurt his value.

Achter on the other hand reached the big leagues as a former 46th-round draft pick out of Michigan State.
