Twins bring back reliever Matt Guerrier

The Twins seem to be putting the band back together.

Right-handed reliever Matt Guerrier is the latest ex-Twin to return to Minnesota as he signed a minor league contract and received an invitation to Spring Training on Wednesday, according to FOX Sports.

Designated hitter Jason Kubel and infielder Jason Bartlett are already back with the Twins after leaving via a trade or free-agency years ago, and rumors about Johan Santana reuniting with the Twins have been floating around for months as well.

Guerrier last pitched for the Twins in 2010. In seven years in Minnesota he went 19-25 with a 3.38 earned-run average. He led all of Major League Baseball in appearances in 2008 and 2009. He left Minnesota to sign with the Dodgers as a free agent in 2011. He spent three years in Los Angeles before setting in with the Cubs during an injury plagued 2013 season.

The 35-year-old underwent flexor tendon surgery in his right elbow following last season, and according to the Star Tribune, he will be fully healed by the start of Spring Training and expects to earn a job in the Twins bullpen.

“I’m pretty confident in myself that if I come back healthy and feel good, I have as good a chance as anybody," he said.
