The Minnesota Twins scored six runs in the first two innings on their way to a 7-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers Monday night at Target Field.

Trevor Plouffe's two-run double in the bottom of the first highlighted a four-run first inning for the Twins. Torii Hunter and Kurt Suzuki added RBI singles in the inning.

Minnesota then added two more in the second on run-scoring singles from Miguel Sano and Eduardo Escobar.

In the meantime, Twins starter Tyler Duffey (3-1), who escaped trouble in the first inning, was cruising through the first six innings. Duffey gave up one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

Escobar added to the Twins lead in the fourth with a monstrous home run to left.

He finished 2-for-4 with the home run and two RBIs on the night. Joe Mauer was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored in the victory.

Tigers starter Kyle Lobstein (3-8) struggled. He allowed six runs on seven hits in just 1 1/3 innings of work.

Phil Hughes (10-8) returns from the disabled list to start on Tuesday night against Alfredo Simon (12-9) for the Tigers.
