The Twins have signed free-agent right-hander Jason Marquis to a one-year $3 million contract. Marquis played for Washington and Arizona last year. The 33-year-old is 104-98 in his career, with a 4.55 ERA.

Twins pick White Sox pitcher in Rule 5 draft

The Minnesota Twins have selected righthander Terry Doyle from the White Sox organization in the Rule 5 draft. Doyle, 26, had a 3.07 ERA splitting time between Class A and Class AA ball last year. The Rule 5 draft aims to prevent teams from stockpiling too many young players on their minor league affiliate teams when other teams would be willing to have them play in the majors.

The 25-year-old right-hander will go to Class AAA Rochester. He was 2-4 with a 4.83 ERA and 11 saves at Class AA Tulsa last season.
