Twins fall to White Sox in opener

The Minnesota Twins fell to the Chicago White Sox 5-3 on Opening Day, Monday afternoon in Chicago.

The game extended a streak of six straight opening day losses for the Twins. The last time they won their first game of the season was in 2008.

The loss spoiled the Twins debut for Ricky Nolasco. He gave up five runs and 10 hits in six innings of work.

It was his former Miami Marlins teammate, Alejandro De Aza, who ruined his outing. De Aza had a big opener to lead the White Sox, as he clubbed a pair of home runs. De Aza drove in three runs on the day.

That was the lift for White Sox starter Chris Sale. He held the Twins to three runs on five hits while striking out eight.

Minnesota threatened in the ninth, Chris Colabello hit a one-out double, bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning. But Chicago's Matt Lindstrom struck out Trevor Plouffe and got Oswaldo Arcia to hit a tapper back to the mound to end the threat and pick up his first save.

Kurt Suzuki had a strong Twins debut. The Twins catcher was 2-4 with 3 RBI for the Twins. Colabello finished with two hits as did Twins center-fielder Aaron Hicks, who also scored a pair of runs.

The Twins and White Sox are back in action on Wednesday.
