Twins finalize 30-man roster; Buxton included, Odorizzi on injured list

The 60-game season begins Friday night in Chicago.
Byron Buxton, Jose Berrios, Eddie Rosario

The 30-man Opening Day roster has been finalized by the Minnesota Twins, and it includes Byron Buxton but not Jake Odorizzi.

Buxton, who suffered a foot sprain last week during a summer camp practice, is one of six outfielders on the roster. Odorizzi, meanwhile, is on the injured list with a back issue but isn't expected to miss time beyond July 30.

"Regardless of true definition, he's dealing with a little something, but he's still able to take part in most of his day and most of his preparation," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Wednesday, via the Twins. "I wouldn't expect this to linger too long."

It's unclear if Buxton will be in the lineup when the Twins open the 60-game regular season Friday against the White Sox in Chicago, but the fact that he's on the roster is a good indication that he's at least close to getting back in the lineup.

Here's the 30-man roster, broken down by position.

Starting pitchers: Homer Bailey, Jose Berrios, Rich Hill, Kenta Maeda

Relief pitchers: Tyler Clippard, Randy Dobnak, Tyler Duffey, Zack Littell, Trevor May, Taylor Rogers, Sergio Romo, Devin Smeltzer, Cody Stashak, Lewis Thorpe, Matt Wisler

Catchers: Alex Avila, Mitch Garver

Infielders: Ehire Adrianza, Luis Arraez, Josh Donaldson, Marwin Gonzalez, Jorge Polanco, Miguel Sano

Designated hitter: Nelson Cruz

Outfielders: Byron Buxton, Jake Cave, Max Kepler, Eddie Rosario, LaMonte Wade Jr., Aaron Whitefield

Taxi squad: Jorge Alcala (RHP), Tomas Telis (C), Caleb Thielbar (LHP)

Willians Astudillo is on the injured list with an undisclosed issue that he's had since July 4, while Michael Pineda and Fernando Romero are on the restricted list.
