Twins: Gibson to make MLB debut Saturday; Buxton promoted

If you don't have plans Saturday you might want to consider taking in the Twins-Royals game at Target Field.

That's when Kyle Gibson will make his long-awaited MLB debut. You know ... that guy the Twins have been teasing fans with since they took him in the first-round of the 2009 draft.

Gibson posted a record of 7-5 with a 3.01 ERA in 15 starts at Triple-A Rochester this season. In 92 2/3 innings he struck out 79 and walked 29.

He's been especially good in his last 10 starts, going 6-2 with a 2.88 ERA. During that stretch he threw two complete game shutouts, and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of another start.

Gibson replaces Pedro Hernandez on the roster. Hernandez helped the Twins beat the Indians in a spot start on Sunday after Mike Pelfrey was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained back.

In another minor league move, the Twins promoted outfielder Byron Buxton to High-A Fort Myers. Buxton, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 draft, posted absurd numbers at Low-A Cedar Rapids.

In 68 games this season, he hit .331 with 33 extra-base hits and 32 stolen bases.
