The Twins swept a short two-game series in San Diego with a 2-0 win over the Padres, Wednesday night.

The victory pulled the Twins two games over the .500 mark on the season, and was their eighth victory in their last 11 games.

Phil Hughes was outstanding again. He turned in seven shutout innings, scattering seven hits, while striking out seven. It was his sixth straight quality start.

Hughes improves to 5-1 on the season, he is 5-0 in his last six starts.

San Diego's Tyson Ross kept pace with Hughes throughout the night. He kept the Twins scoreless through five innings, but finally in the sixth Minnesota got something going.

Chris Parmelee for the second-straight night put the Twins on the scoreboard first. He hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Joe Mauer, in the top of the sixth inning.

It remained 1-0, until Trevor Plouffe hit a two-out solo home run in the eighth, his third homer of the season. He also recorded his third straight multi-hit game.

Glenn Perkins worked a perfect ninth inning to pick up his 14th save of the season.

The Twins have their second off day of the week Thursday before starting a weekend series in San Francisco on Friday.
