Byron Buxton's season has been knocked off course slightly as the Twins have placed the speedy outfielder on the 10-day injured list.
Buxton was hit by a pitch on the right wrist during Minnesota's win over the Royals on Friday, then missed the next three games before being placed on the IL, retroactive to Saturday. He's eligible to return June 25.
According MLB.com, Buxton's wrist contusion appears to be a day-to-day injury and nothing long term.
The Star Tribune reports that Buxton took swings in Target Field's indoor batting cage on Monday, and that apparently didn't go as well as hoped.
Buxton is having a breakthrough season. The former No. 2 overall pick (2012) is batting .266 with nine homers, 21 doubles and an impressive .851 OPS.
Taking his place on the roster is outfielder Jake Cave, who is batting .326 with five home runs and 25 RBI at Triple-A Rochester this season.
