The Minnesota Twins have taken third baseman Tervor Plouffee off the disabled list after 22 days, ensuring that he will be in the lineup when the Twins take on the Detroit Tigers Saturday night.

Accordingly, the team sent catcher/outfielder Chris Herrmann back down to the minors to report to Rochester.

The Twins will take anything deemed an advantage after a 4-0 loss to Detroit Friday night, and it would seem Plouffe, who played his last game May 21 at Atlanta, where he suffered a concussion and was placed on the seven-day disabled list, might help. A subsequent calf injury sidelined him on May 29, and required an additional 15-day DL stint, according to ESPN, which says Plouffe went 5 for 15 in four games during his rehab stint with Triple-A.

Herrmann played in seven games, batting .462 with one home run and four RBIs in 13 at-bats, according to the AP.

The Star Tribune's Phil Miller reports that Plouffe's replacements at third, Eduardo Escobar and Jamey Carroll, combined to go 10-for-88 in the 22 games Plouffe missed, with one RBI apiece.

"That's a .114 average and only one extra-base hit (none since May 23) from a position that's supposed to provide some sock," Miller writes. "Plouffe might not be Mike Schmidt, but the Twins need him."
