Twins pull Liriano from his next start

On Sunday Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said the team was going to "take a step back" with Francisco Liriano. That step back will keep Liriano from making his next scheduled start. A day off Thursday will keep the rotation intact, with Liriano getting extra time to regain his confidence before starting again May 1 against the Angels.

Twins taking a step back with Liriano

After another rough outing the Minnesota Twins plan to "take a step back" with Francisco Liriano. Ron Gardenhire says "we're going to step back to see what we need to do to try to get his confidence back." If this means a move to the bullpen, Liriano said, "That would be OK with me."

Francisco Liriano set to start Tuesday against the Angels

The left-hander threw about 70 pitches during a bullpen session Saturday. Liriano was pulled from his last scheduled start to give him time to regain his confidence. He'll go for his first win of the season on May 1 in Anaheim.

Twins waste another great start by Liriano

Francisco Liriano had another brilliant start go to waste Wednesday night as the Twins lost to the Orioles, 2-1 at Target Field. Liriano struck out 10 over six innings, but he gave up a 2-run homer to Adam Jones in the first inning -- and it turned out to be all Baltimore needed.

Liriano confident adjustments to his mechanics will help him this season

Francisco Liriano worked hard on his mechanics during the off-season and he's hoping it pays off. Ron Gardenhire says, "sometimes he gets out of whack, and you wonder, 'What the hell are we doing?' That's Frankie." Liriano says, "physically and mentally, I'm getting better."

Liriano, Twins shelled by White Sox, 7-4

Before Monday night, the last time Francisco Liriano pitched against the White Sox in Chicago, he threw a no-hitter. It was almost nothing but hits Monday night, however, as the trade commodity allowed seven earned runs in 2.2 innings -- his worst start since returning from the minors in May.

Liriano needs to 'clear my head'

Francisco Liriano's next start is expected to come May 1. In the meantime, the struggling lefty will use the extra time off to "clear my head." He'll throw bullpen sessions Wednesday and Saturday to try and figure out his problems. He says "missing one start is going to be good for me."

Yankees rough up Liriano and the Twins, 8-3

The Yankees chased Francisco Liriano from the game in the third inning and went on to beat the Twins, 8-3 Tuesday night. Josh Willingham hit his American League-leading fifth home run of the season, but that was one of very few bright spots for the Twins.

Twins lose to A's despite Liriano's 15 strikeouts

Francisco Liriano struck out a career-high 15 hitters and Josh Willingham smacked his 20th and 21st home runs of the season, but the Twins still found a way to lose to the A's, 6-3 at Target Field Friday night.
