An early offensive outburst coupled with another brilliant start by Kyle Gibson fueled the Twins to an 8-1 victory over the Mariners in Seattle Wednesday night.
Gibson (8-7) fired six shutout innings, scattering seven hits while walking one and striking out three.
Gibson has some Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to him this season. When he pitches well, he pitches really well. When he struggles, he really struggles. MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger explains:
Kendrys Morales had three RBI to lead the Twins, who scored one in the first inning, four in the second and three more in the fourth.
Chris Colabello drove in two with his 13th double of the season and Brian Dozier added a pair of doubles on the night.
The Mariners (49-42) didn't score until the seventh inning when Robinson Cano ripped an RBI double down the right-field line against Twins lefty Caleb Thielbar.
Minnesota can win a series in Seattle for the first time since 2010 when they play Thursday night. Yohan Pino starts for the Twins, first pitch at 9:10 p.m.
